THE DIREZIONE INVESTIGATIVA ANTIMAFIA CONFISCATES OVER 12 MILLION EUROS FROM AN ENTREPRENEUR IN THE TRAPANI AREA

The Direzione Investigativa Antimafia carried out an asset-related confiscation order, issued by the Court in Trapani. This preventive order is based on a proposal made by the DIA Director against an entrepreneur from Vita (TP), operating in the construction sector and in the production and trade of concrete.

A Personal Preventive Measure of Special Surveillance was also issued against this person,  lasting 3 years and 6 months.

According to the reconstruction by the competent Court, on the basis of the criminal police investigations,  conducted by the Direzione Investigativa Antimafia, it was established that the person was socially dangerous due to his links with the boss of a local mafia family. The entrepreneur received financial resources, in order to start and fund his companies as well as “full backing”  by the mafia to expand on the market. This allowed him to gain a predominant position in the construction of public works to the detriment of competing companies, altering the proper functioning of the free market and violating the rules of fair  competition.  

The confiscation order even depicts how the person participated in a number of extortions (s.c. “messe a posto”), to the detriment of competing entrepreneurs.

The confiscation involved  4 companies, three of which operating in the building sector and one managing the parking area and the services in the Archaeological Park of Segesta, 16 bank accounts, 132 reals estate properties and plots of land as well as 24 vehicles  for an estimated overall value of  over 12 million euros.

Today’s result is the outcome of institutional activities aimed at countering illegal assets linked, directly or indirectly, to criminal mafia-type phenomena, thus protecting and safeguarding the healthy national economy.
