The Direzione Investigativa Antimafia and the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri in Foggia carried out a confiscation decree of 1st instance issued by the Court in Bari – Section III in the function of the Court of Prevention, against a known criminal from Orta Nova (FG).
The investigations, carried out by the DIA and the Carabinieri under the supervision of the Anti-Mafia District Directorate of Bari, have shown that the subject of the order (at present, subject to further checks at a later stage in the hearing with the defence) – a socially dangerous person as he had already been convicted of money laundering, receiving stolen goods, Invoicing for non-existent transactions, fraudulent insolvency, violation of labour regulations, failure to pay social security and welfare payments – had accumulated assets of disproportionate value compared to the income declared to the Inland Revenue. Hence, the hypothesis that such assets could be the result of the use of proceeds of criminal activities was considered well-founded.
Today’s confiscation measure concerned 7 transport companies, formally registered in the name of nominees but linked to the multiple-convicted criminal, 15 properties, other assets and financial relations, for a total estimated value of 2.2 million euro.
The result is part of the institutional activities aimed at attacking the illicit wealth gained and traceable, directly or indirectly, to criminal contexts, thus also acting to protect and safeguard the healthy part of the national economic fabric.
