THE DIREZIONE INVESTIGATIVA ANTIMAFIA CONFISCATES ASSETS FOR 6 MILLION EUROS FROM AN ENTREPRENEUR FROM CASTELVETRANO SENTENCED FOR MAFIA-TYPE CRIMINAL ORGANIZATION

The Direzione Investigativa Antimafia, an institution within the Department of Public Security, carried out a confiscation order issued by the Court in Trapani against an entrepreneur operating in the construction sector, allegedly close to mafia groups in Castelvetrano (TP).

In July 2018,  this person was targeted by a pre-trial detention order, issued by the GIP of the Court in Palermo and carried  out by the DIA.  Subsequently, he was finally sentenced to detention for 15 years for mafia-type criminal association.

Moreover, the entrepreneur was found after some cooperating witnesses made statements to the judicial authority, describing him as a member of the mafia group in Castelvetrano (TP). He succeeded in winning a large part of the local economic tissue allowing the clan to gain huge resources.

Today’s order adopted also a special surveillance measure with a mandatory stay in his town of residence or usual residence for 3 years, as well as the confiscation of his entire registered capital, his corporate assets made up of two companies producing  and selling concrete and dealing with construction works in general, 35 real estate properties and 32 registered movables, for an overall estimated value of 6 million euros.

Today’s result is the outcome of institutional activities aimed at countering illegal assets linked, directly or indirectly, to criminal mafia-type phenomena, thus protecting and safeguarding the healthy tissue of the national economy.
