The Direzione Investigativa Antimafia, the Anticrime Divisione of the Questura of Caserta and the Provincial ComMand of the Guardia di Finanza of Caserta are enforcing a seizure order issued by the Court of S. Maria Capua Vetere – Preventive Measures Section. The seizure order, issued by the Public Prosecutor of Naples (Direzione Distrettuale Antimafia), requested by the Director of the DIA and by the Police Chief (questore) of Caserta, was enforced against an entrepreneur operating in the concrete and catering sectors in Caserta. He is close to the clan “Belforte”, a “camorra” OCG, and had already been sentenced with final conviction for having set up a structured “pizzo” collection method based on overbilling that disguised the extortion price paid by those being extorted to “even a score.”
The seizure involved assets for an estimated total value of approximately 30 million euros:
specifically, 2 corporate assets and shares, 62 real estates in the province of Caserta, Benevento, Salerno and Parma (13 plots of land, 14 homes, 2 industrial factories, 32 garage/warehouses and 1 timeshare in the Amalfi coast), as well as 47 financial relations and 18 registered movable assets (2 vehicles and 16 industrial vehicles).
The high value of the assets that were seized will be protected through the judicial administration already ordered by the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, which places the utmost attention on these aspects. To this end, the Court established a technical committee that created guidelines to manage the confiscated assets. The guidelines aim at regulating the phase of the preventive order. In this framework today’s measure is also carried out.
The above-mentioned result is part of the institutional activities aimed at tackling illicitly-gained assets and that can be ascribable, directly or indirectly, to mafia-type criminal contexts, so to protect and safeguard the healthy part of the national economic fabric.
The enforced decree was adopted as part of the procedure for the application of a preventive measure; it is a temporary measure, pending the final decision on the assets under confiscation. The recipients of the measure may avail themselves, if necessary, of the legal means of appeal against this measure.
