THE DIREZIONE INVESTIGATIVA ANTIMAFIA SEIZED ASSETS WORTH ABOUT EUR 1 MILLION FROM A PERSON SUSPECTED OF BEING A HIGH-RANKING MEMBER OF THE MALLARDO CLAN

The Direzione Investigativa Antimafia carried out an order of asset seizure issued by the court in Naples – Section Preventive Measures, against a person suspected of being a high-ranking member of the Mallardo clan, which is part of the Alleanza di Secondigliano (Alliance of Secondigliano). The order stemmed from a proposal for personal and asset-related preventive measures, which was requested jointly by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the court in Naples and the DIA Director. The affected party, who has several criminal records and convictions, including murder, was arrested last year by the DIA Field Office in Naples based on a pre-trial arrest order issued by the investigating magistrate (GIP) on the request of the Anti-Mafia District Directorate of the Prosecutor’s Office in Naples, charged of being the acting boss of the Mallardo clan.

In particular, the order described him as the historical member of the clan who had taken on the role of the acting boss soon after the arrest of the high-ranking members. He had leading and decision-making powers about the strategies of the crime group and managed first-hand the clan’s fund. Further investigations revealed that there was a disproportion between the property, the financial resources and the tax incomes of the affected party.

As a result, the court in Naples ordered to seize 1 company operating in the betting and lottery fields, 3 financial relations, 2 small villas and one car, with an estimated total value of about EUR 1 million.

Today’s result is part of the institutional activities aimed at attacking the illicitly gained assets and the assets, which are directly or indirectly linked to mafia-type activities, so to protect the domestic healthy economy.
