THE DIREZIONE INVESTIGATIVA ANTIMAFIA CARRIED OUT A PRE-TRIAL DETENTION ORDER AGAINST 3 PERSONS

On behalf of the District Public Prosecutor in Naples, we inform you that this morning, the officers of the Direzione Investigativa Antimafia, a directorate of the Department of Public Security, carried out a pre-trial detention order issued by the Judge for Preliminary Investigations at the court in Naples, on the request of the Anti-Mafia District Directorate. The pre-trial detention order affected 3 individuals, heavily suspected, on different grounds, of the offences of mafia-type association, external participation in a mafia-type association, extortion, attempted extortion with the aggravating circumstance of the mafia method.  

The order carried out is the outcome of the investigations conducted by the DIA in Naples and coordinated by the Anti-Mafia District Directorate (DDA), which also involved a building contractor of Giugliano in Campania. He is supposed to have close relations with the Mallardo clan, operating in Giugliano in Campania and in the surrounding areas to obtain some benefits.  

In detail, the entrepreneur is supposed to have committed extortion against other entrepreneurs.

The same pre-trial arrest order affected two more individuals, who are believed to belong to the Mallardo clan. They are heavily suspected of having extorted 90 thousand euros from a building contractor in Giugliano with regard to the construction works of a residential building made up of 12 flats.  

The order carried out was issued as a result of preliminary investigations and it can be challenged. The suspects are under investigations; hence they shall be presumed innocent until final judgement.
