The Direzione Investigativa Antimafia carried out the confiscation in Taranto ordered by the Court in Lecce – First Criminal Section – Preventive Measures. The confiscated assets, worth over 5 million euros, are linked to an entrepreneur operating as a mussels farmer, on the basis of sufficient evidence, gathered during the investigations carried out by the DIA and coordinated by the DDA in Lecce and following judicial events which sentenced him for mafia-type criminal association, extortion and weapons law violation highlighting him as socially dangerous.
Investigations ascertained that the subject, though not having formally declared a sufficient income to justify his significant economic possibilities, succeeded in increasing his personal and entrepreneurial assets by registering valuables for relatives and strawmen.
The confiscation will concern 2 villas, 1 residential property, 8 depots and 1 plot of land, all in Taranto, Castellaneta Marina and Martina Franca, as well as 50% of corporate shares, 5 companies operating in the sector of mussels and shellfish cultivation, 5 motor vehicles, 3 motorcycles and 5 financial accounts.
Today’s result is part of the institutional activities aimed at attacking the illicitly gained assets which are directly or indirectly linked to criminal activities, thus protecting the healthy sector of the national economy.
