La Direzione Investigativa
The Direzione Investigativa Antimafia carried out an order of preventive confiscation issued by the Court of Appeal in Bari – Fourth Criminal Section – Preventive Measures – concerning assets worth over two million euros. According to the preliminary checks (which are not final and hence subject to appeal) aimed at enforcing the asset-related preventive measures, the assets were linked to an individual from Minervino Murge, in the province of Barletta.
The confiscation is the outcome of a complex investigation carried out by the DIA women and men aimed at backtracking the social danger of the individual and identifying the capital and financial assets linked to the individual and his family members.
The social dangerousness of the individual (at this stage and unless differently established by the cross-examination with the defence counsel) was recognized due to his involvement in complex investigations which had reportedly revealed the existence of a crime organization committing lucrative crimes against property, with the frequent use of explosives, in the regions of Puglia and Basilicata.
On the basis of the evidence gathered during the criminal proceeding and considering his well-structured and constant criminal activity over a long period of time, the Court concluded that the individual represented a social danger.
The asset-related investigations carried out by the DIA, under the direction of the District Antimafia Prosecutor’s Office, revealed the huge disproportion between his assets and the income situation of the individual and of his family members.
Today’s order of seizure involved 46 real estate properties, mainly parcels of arable lands and a flourishing livestock farm in the province of Barletta.
Today’s result is part of the institutional activities of the Direzione Investigativa Antimafia aimed at attacking the illicitly gained assets which are directly or indirectly linked to criminal activities, thus protecting and safeguarding the healthy sector of the national economy.
