THE DIREZIONE INVESTIGATIVA ANTIMAFIA CONFISCATED ASSETS WORTH ONE MILLION EUROS FROM AN ENTREPRENEUR IN CATANZARO 

The Direzione Investigativa Antimafia carried out an order of confiscation and special surveillance of public security against an entrepreneur from Catanzaro who is considered to be a high-ranking figure of a ‘ndrangheta-style organized crime group in the areas of Vallefiorita, Amaroni and Squillace, acting under the direction of the local clans in  Cutro and Isola Capo Rizzuto.

The judicial police operation is the natural continuation of the seizure carried out in January 2021 on request of the court in Catanzaro, following in-depth asset-related investigations carried out by the DIA Operational Branch, which led to the proposal of the DIA Director for personal and asset-related measures.

The collegial court recognized the current dangerousness of the entrepreneur highlighting that the seriousness and robustness of the evidence gathered and his top-ranking role justify the special surveillance measure with the residence obligation for 3 years.

Thanks to the accurate accounting reconstruction carried out by the investigators, a significant disproportion between the assets detected and the assets declared was ascertained. With this background,  the court – preventive measures – was in the position to order the confiscation of his company assets which consisted in 2 companies operating the sectors of catering, painting and glazing, 1 cultural association, 10 real estate assets, 1 motorcycle, 1 car as well as bank and financial assets for a total of over 1 million euros.

Today’s result is part of the institutional activities aimed at attacking the illicitly gained assets which are directly or indirectly linked to criminal activities, thus protecting and safeguarding the healthy sector of the national economy.
